SUMMARY:RPS Training (21st – 22nd July 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) training is our core training product. Formal RPS training is a requirement of the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17).\nDelegates are awarded a formal Certificate of Achievement on course attendance and on successful completion of a quality assured written examination.\nTo book, please scroll down to the bottom of the page.\nOutline Programme, including the HSE Core of Competence (see below)\nDay 1\nRadioactivity and Radiation Properties\nRadiation Hazards\nRadiation Dose and Radiation Quantities\nBiological Effects of Ionising Radiation\nUnderstanding Risk and RP Principles\nRestriction of Exposure\nArea Monitoring\nPersonal Dose Monitoring\nIntroduction to Personal Protective Equipment\nIntroduction to RP Legislation\nDay 2\nRecap of Day 1\nSyndicate Exercises\nPersonal Protective Equipment (overview and key updates)\nRP Legislation (overview and key updates)\nInstrument Specific Applications\nCompany Specific Applications (where requested)\nExamination\nFor more details about this course please click here ( https://marketcross.org/services/training-2/radiation-protection-courses/rps-training/ ).\nTo see our other scheduled courses please click here ( https://training.marketcross.org/ ).\nTo book, please scroll down to the bottom of the page.\nIf the course is fully booked please try a later date ( https://training.marketcross.org ).\nFor more information about our other services (e.g. RPA Service) please click here ( https://marketcross.org ).\n\nHSE core of competence for RPS modules.\n1. The nature of ionising radiation and its interaction with tissue, including:\n\nthe nature of any harmful effects;\nthe principle of restricting exposure to ionising radiation so far as reasonably practicable; and\nthe concepts of internal and external radiation exposure.\n\n2. The quantities used for:\n\nmeasuring ionising radiation, including the units of measurement;\nactivity of radioactive substances; and\ncontamination;as appropriate to the circumstances.\n\n3. Relevant measurement techniques, for example:\n\nfilm badge;\nthermo-luminescent dosemeter (TLD);\nelectronic dosemeter;\nother personal dosemeter;\nbioassay;\nair sampling; and\nworkplace portable monitors for radiation and contamination.\n\n4. Basic legal requirements:\n\nthe Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17) and Approved Code of Practice (L121);\nlocal rules, their purpose and how to use them to secure compliance with the Regulations;\nrisk assessments;\nprovisions specific to women and young people;\ndesignation of people and areas; and\nappreciation of relevant general health and safety legislation, such as the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.\n\n5. The basic principles of practical radiation protection:\n\ntime;\ndistance;\nshielding;\ncontainment; and\ngood housekeeping;and how those principles are carried through in the particular work situation.\n\n6. In-house knowledge, as appropriate:\n\nthe radiation employer’s safety policy and organisation;\nthe specific functions the RPS would be expected to undertake;\nrelevant dose limits;\noperational levels set by the employer for the particular workplace;\ncontent of the local rules established by the radiation employer;\ncontingency plans; and\nwhere help and advice can be obtained.\n\n7. Practical procedures\nto be followed in the event of an accident, incident, emergency or other unwanted occurrence, including procedures for reporting adverse incidents.\nFor more details about this course please click here ( https://marketcross.org/services/training-2/radiation-protection-courses/rps-training/ ).\nTo see our other scheduled courses please click here ( https://events.marketcross.org/ ).\nTo book, please scroll down to the bottom of the page.\nIf the course is fully booked please try a later date ( https://events.marketcross.org ).\nTo see our full range of services please click here ( https://marketcross.org ).\n
